Please check the the AFGE website and update your mailing address. We plan to start mailing information to the address listed. Thanks. Recently the Agency and AFGE agreed on an electronic search procedure for BOP staff. Fortunately the policy does not affect us at FCI Morgantown because the MOU states they are only necessary when entering a secure perimeter....Morgantown does not have one. However, our brothers and sisters are fighting major battles with this reactive BOP measure at various institutions. Because of the continued efforts of the Council of Prison Locals, Director Lappin had to testify before the Appropriations Sub Committee and answer some very challenging questions. Again, because of the efforts of our unions, he could not deny the issues at hand and was forced to reveal the truth. Despite Warden Philips assertion at recall that the BOP is not looking at RIF's. etc., Director Lappin testified that if the BOP does not receive the additional funding being requested, he will be forced to begin reducing staffing levels. He also testified that the Bureau needs thousands more positions to get the BOP back to where they were a few years ago. The Warden has asked the Union to encourage staff to utilize the Employee Services Department when applying for jobs. He stated that they are more than willing to assist any staff member in completing their papaerwork prior to it being sent to Grand Prairie. PLEASE READ!!!!! Do not park in the designated handicap spaces unless it is appropriate. The Warden has addressed this at staff recalls yet he is receiving complaints that staff continue to park in those spots. He has now stated that they are going to elevate the consequences of parking in these spots. Please ensure that we are setting an example as bargaining unit staff. - Recently Management has attempted to effectuate multiple personnel and working condition changes without going through the Union. We call them on the carpet and they retract and say I am sorry. However, most recently they have begun bullying and intimidating bargaining unit staff during investigations, etc. We are exploring various options to ensure this does not continue and that they fix problems before they occur, not after the fact. Stay tuned.
- UPDATE!!! Unit staff met with the Warden and the Union President and discussed the total year annual leave schedule. The meeting was successful as all parties were able to agree on terms. This had been an issue since early this year.
UPDATE!!!!!At the National Convention, our local 2441 was honored as the most improved local. It is representative of the excellent job the stewards are doing. Thank you for your hard work and dedication. UPDATE!!!!! After many unsuccessful attempts (LMR, Meetings with the Chief Psychologist) at resolving the unnecessary work being placed on the Drug Treatment Staff, the Union President met with the Warden prior to filing a grievance and they were able to resolve the issues in the Psychology Department. The Union has t-shirts for sale. They are grey t-shirts commemorating the tragic events of 9-11. One is on display in the staff lounge. The price is $10. See an e-board member if interested. Many thanks to the Employees Club and the other organizations that have provided food fundraisers lately. The food has been excellent. If you have a departmental issue, contact your steward. If you are not sure who it is, contact one of the e-board members. If you are interested in becoming a steward, contact an e-board member. A big thank you to the current stewards. We would not be where we are without your dedication and effort. We are attempting to organize a stewards meeting after work. If you are interested, contact Steward Sowden. UPDATE! The Union and Management have been able to facilitate the purchase of three A/C units for the officers stations in the housing units. This has been a long time coming and special thanks are in order for Steward Yost for assisting in the procurement of those units.
